Table Lamp

Arts and Crafts
What You Need:
  • Standing table-lamp
  • Yarn in different colours
  • Beads
  • 22 gauge copper wire (available at a craft store)
  • Scissors
  • Brush
  • Colour print-outs of posters
  • Paper tape

[...]

Method:
  • First, lay strips of tape across the entire base of the lamp and wrap them around the bottom. Overlap your strips of tape until you’ve covered the whole base. This will give the base a colourful swirly look.
  • Cut posters into about 2x3-inch rectangles. Brush a layer of glue to the surface and apply the images on the lamp, overlapping them.
  • Tie a bead to the bottom of the copper wire, then start wrapping it up the pole. Make a tight first coil at the bottom of the pole to ensure a secure start. Thread with beads and wrap at the same time to see the effect as you go. When you reach the top, secure the beaded copper wire to the harp of the lamp.
  • Then strip the lampshade of its old material. Take a strand of yarn and tie it to the top of the bare lampshade frame. Wind your yarn around the skeleton frame until you’ve got a strip, then tie a knot to the top of the frame again and cut the yarn. Repeat with different colours until the entire lampshade is covered.
  • Finally add beads to the end to finish the project.
