What You Need:
  • Round cardboard containers with lids - 2
  • Plaster of Paris
  • Masking tape
  • Disposable plastic cup or bowl
  • Sponge
  • Paint
Method:
  • Make sure the containers are clean.
  • Mix a large batch of plaster of Paris and pour it into both the containers, filling them about ¾th full. Place the lid on the containers and tape around the edges.
  • Lay both containers on their side in a place where they won’t be disturbed or roll around. Let them dry overnight.
  • Once they are set, peel the cardboard away.
  • Smooth imperfections on the plaster with a rough paper.
  • Use acrylic colours to paint on the plaster, using a damp sponge instead of a brush. Let it dry.
  • Use a highlighter to trace a design onto the painted plaster. Keep the design sparse and clean.
  • Your bookends are ready!
