Copper & Glass Creations

Katrin Spranger, an artist who specialises in jewellery and sculpture, unveiled her new collection of copper and glass sculptures known as Aquatopia. All the items in the collection are made of oxidised copper piping fused with laboratory glassware, so that it looks as though the objects have been submerged underwater for some time. Spranger has even covered the surfaces of the abstract vessels with lichen-like forms, which she created using an electroforming technique. Another interesting feature is that the surfaces have been made conductive to electricity by painting them with conductive paint. The items in the collection are made out of copper and glass because traditionally, items made out of these materials were used to transport and store water.
