Ladakh to Get its First University

Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir is all set to get its first university. The State Administrative Council led by Governor Satya Pal Malik accepted the Jammu and Kashmir University of Ladakh Bill on December 17, 2018. Ladakh’s University will get Rs. 65 crore as an initial grant from the Indian government for its first academic session. The three functioning degree colleges in Kargil will be associated to the Cluster of University of Ladakh, in which the Degree College of Leh will take on most of the responsibilities. With a population of 2.75 lakh, Ladakh has a 40% student population as per the 2011 census. All new colleges set up in Ladakh will be affiliated with the University of Ladakh.
