President Vladimir Putin’s India Visit

News
Russia President Vladimir Putin visited India earlier this month to attend the 19th India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit in New Delhi. During the visit, Putin and PM Narendra Modi signed eight agreements related to defence, energy, railways, space technology and scientific cooperation to further strengthen the Indo-Russia strategic partnership. Despite the US warning, Russia and India signed an agreement on the purchase of the $5billion S-400 Triumf missile system. After the signing of this deal, India has become the third country in the world to have this long-range, surface-to-air missile defence system. India and Russia also signed a pact to develop six nuclear power projects in India. Russia also confirmed its full support to India’s first manned space mission, Gaganyaan. Putin invited Modi to visit Russia for the 20th Annual Bilateral Summit, which is scheduled next year. He sent multiple signals that he was sure Modi would return to power after the 2019 general elections.
