The heart pumps blood to our lungs and body. It is made of two upper chambers called atria and two lower chambers called ventricles. When a person has a hole in his/ her heart, it means that there is a hole in the wall (septum) between two chambers. The hole is a type of simple heart defect, which can be present at the time of birth. It changes the normal flow of blood through the heart and thus needs to be corrected.
