The Adventures of Rama

Books & Nooks

This book tells the story of the Ramayan and the marvelous accomplishments of the people living in that era. Though the story is well known, it's friendly layout and large images make it the perfect way of introducing children to characters from the Ramayan. The pictures in the book are actually enlargements of miniatures painted during the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar. They are works of art derived from the 16th Century translation of the Ramayan’s text into Persian, a project ordered by Akbar. In some cases, the Persian text panels are also visible in the illustrations. All the paintings reproduced here have been taken from a late 16th Century manuscript, which is now in the Freer Gallery of Art, Washington DC, USA.
