Howler Learns to Howl

Nirmiti Gogoi, Class 4, Don Bosco School Oodlabari, Jalpaiguri

In the vast wilderness of the Whispering Woods lived a little wolf named Howler. He was the smallest wolf in his pack, with soft grey fur and wide, curious eyes. Howler was always fascinated by the night sky and the echoing calls that filled the darkness.

Every night, as the moon rose high above the treetops, Howler would watch in awe as the older wolves gathered in a clearing to let out their mighty howls. The haunting melody that resonated through the forest filled his heart with a mixture of envy and longing. He yearned to join them, to add his voice to the symphony of the wild.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Howler, filled with determination, decided it was time to try. He ventured to the heart of the clearing where the older wolves usually gathered. The moon, radiant and full, cast a silvery glow upon the scene.

The elder wolves glanced at Howler, their expressions a blend of skepticism and amusement. But Howler didn’t let their doubts deter him. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and listened to the enchanting night.

He imitated the first howl he had ever heard, echoing across the Whispering Woods. At first, his attempt was weak, but with every breath, he found strength within himself. He poured his passion into the air, releasing a howl that filled the silence and touched the hearts of all who listened.

To his surprise, the older wolves ceased their howls to listen. They were entranced by the beauty and purity of Howler’s voice. The sound echoed through the trees, carrying a sense of determination and strength that belied his size. Howler’s heart swelled with joy as he realized that he had found his voice, his place among the wolves.

From that night on, Howler became an inseparable part of the pack, his voice blending harmoniously with the others. The other wolves no longer saw him as small; they admired him for his determination and bravery. Howler, once filled with envy, now looked at the moon with gratitude for guiding him on this extraordinary journey.

As the Whispering Woods echoed with their nightly chorus, one could hear the voices of the wolves dancing among the trees. And among them, standing tall, was Howler, a little wolf who had found his voice, inspiring others to find their own.
