Ahimsa Meat – India's Lab Meat


The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and National Research Centre on Meat (NRCM) have started working on a project called Ahimsa Meat, making India one of the very few countries to fund fat-free boneless meat. The Department of Biotechnology has given Ahimsa Meat an initial funding of `4.5 crores, which will be leveraged by the scientists to create mutton and chicken from stem cells without slaughtering animals. According to the scientists at CCMB, the nutritional value, taste, smell and look of the lab meat will be identical to traditional meat.
