Anika Chebrolu, a 14-year-old Indian-American girl, has won US $25,000 for her discovery that may lead to a cure for COVID-19. The young scientist is a class 8 student from Frisco, Texas. Chebrolu won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, which is the US’ premier middle school science competition. She has been awarded for her work, which involved using the in-silico methodology for drug discovery to find a molecule that can selectively bind to the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In addition to the cash price, she was also awarded an exclusive 3M mentorship.
