Arya Rajendran, a 21-year-old second-year student of BSc mathematics at the All Saints’ College, Thiruvananthapuram, won the recent civic polls in Kerala and has been sworn in as the mayor of Thiruvananthapuram. Her party, CPI (M) won majority votes in the corporation. Rajendran has become the youngest mayor in Kerala, bagging 2,872 votes, 549 more than her rival Congress candidate. This election was also her first time as a voter and standing candidate. In 2009, Suman Koli from Rajasthan became the youngest mayor. She had contested from Bharatpur.
