The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to install 40 garbage-collecting ATMs across the city. These collection centres will accept plastic and glass bottles, metal cans and plastic wrappers. Citizens will be paid `1 for plastic bottles and `3 for glass bottles. The money will be directly transferred to bank accounts and users will need to register to use the service. Such ATMs are already being successfully used in Varanasi and Delhi.
