The Kochi Water Metro Project that aims at connecting 10 islands in Kochi through 15 different routes recently got the environment ministry’s clearance. The project will be executed by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and will cost close to Rs. 747.28 crore. The German Funding Agency KfW will invest Rs. 579 crore into the project and the remaining will be borne by the state government of Kerala and a private funding company. According to KMRL’s project proposal, modern, environment-friendly and safe boats will be used to connect 38 water stations. The project, which is estimated to be completed by November 2020, will make travel easy and also reduce pollution and traffic congestion.
