Our galaxy, the Milky Way is a lot wider and more massive than what we have been led to believe. According to recent research, the Milky Way stretches across 2 million light years. Beyond the 1,20,000 light year disc of gas that houses the solar system lies a large disc of gas and dark matter that is also part of the Milky Way. Alis Deason, an astrophysicist at Durham University in England, and her colleague have located the end of the Milky Way by tracing nearby galaxies. They used computer simulations and telescopic observations to chart the entire length of the Milky Way.
