Newsmaker: Kami Rita Sherpa

51-year-old Nepali mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has summitted Mount Everest for the 25th time, breaking his own record for the most number of climbs. Despite the pandemic, Nepal has issued permissions to 408 foreign climbers this year. Sherpa is part of a 12-member team that fixes ropes on the icy route to enable hundreds of climbers to scale Mount Everest.

Sherpa has been a guide for more than two decades and his expertise and skills have helped hundreds of climbers every year. He first summitted the 8,849mt peak in 1994, and since then has been climbing Mount Everest almost every year.
