A 19-year-old boxer, Nishan Manohar Kadam from Mannur village in Belagavi district of Karnataka swam 2.5kms in floodwater to reach the state-level championships where he won a silver medal. Kadam is a class 12 student. On August 7, when Kadam had to catch a train to Bengaluru to participate in a boxing event, he found himself stuck at home in an area that was flooded. Three of the connecting roads from his village to the meeting point were submerged and damaged. However, he did not give up. Along with his father, he covered his boxing kit in plastic and jumped into the floodwater. They swam a distance of 2.5kms, swimming for 45 minutes to reach the spot where Kadam could join the Belagavi district team.
