The Indian Railways might turn two non-air-conditioned waiting rooms located on the first floor of the Mumbai Central railway station into a pod hotel by December 2020. This pod hotel, which will be Indian Railways’ first, will provide overnight accommodation for up to 12 hours at a cheaper rate than a normal hotel room. The Indian Rail Catering Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will construct 30 pods under two categories—classic and suite. Classic pods will cater to one passenger and will have charging sockets and one locker for storage while suite pods will accommodate two passengers and will have personal lockers and wi-fi. According to an official of IRCTC, the tender for the plan is yet to be finalised, after which the construction will commence.
