At the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, the medals that will be handed out to the winners will be made out of recycled electronic waste. The medals will be created by recycling 50,000 tonnes of discarded smartphones, laptops, digital cameras and other handheld games. According to reports, municipal authorities have already collected 47,488 tonnes of discarded devices. The officials have kept a target of 30.3kgs of gold, 4,100kgs of silver and 2,700kgs of bronze. More than 90% of gold and 85% of silver has already being collected, while all the bronze was collected in June last year.
