The Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) has decided to revamp the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai. The plan proposes the construction of a multi-storey heritage square, upgradation of passenger amenities and remodelling the CSMT yard. Apart from this, separate areas will be constructed for outstation and local passengers and various commercial shops. A similar revamp plan was suggested in 2010, which was not approved. This plan is yet to be approved by the Central Railway and the Ministry of Railways. If approved, the execution will be done by a private-public-partnership model.
