Architects at Ector Hoogstad recently completed a three-storey bicycle parking lot with a capacity of 12,656 bicycles below the Utrecht Central Station in the Netherlands. The main terminal building, train platforms and public square are all easily accessible from the parking lot, making it convenient for commuters to reach their destination quickly. The parking lot can be easily accessed via regular public transport chip-cards. It also has a digital system that directs commuters to parking spots that have the quickest access to train platforms. The parking lot includes a bicycle hire outlet and a repair service station. The Netherlands encourages the use of bicycles in order to ease traffic congestion and create more sustainable cities.
