On March 7, 2020, Vikas Krishan Yadav beat Japan’s Sewon Okazawa, ranked world number six and seeded third in the 69kg weight class, to seal his spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This will be Yadav’s third Olympics appearance. Yadav started training at the age of 10, when he joined the Bhiwani Boxing Club in Hissar, Haryana. Over the years, he has refined his play and won many medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games. He qualified for the Rio Olympic Games by finishing with a bronze medal at the Olympic qualifiers held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in June 2016. However, he was defeated in the quarter-final of the men’s middle weight category event at the Olympics. Prior to that, he was eliminated from the 2012 Olympic Games in London, UK, in a preliminary round. Yadav works as a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in the Haryana Police Force.
