Vinisha Umashankar, a 14-year-old from Tamil Nadu, is a teen inventor who designed an environment-friendly solar-powered ironing cart called ‘Iron-Max’. Ironing vendors are common across India and their metal irons are usually heated using charcoal, leading to air pollution. Vinisha’s solar ironing cart eliminates the usage of charcoal and replaces it with solar energy. Her invention was nominated for this year’s Earthshot Prize, which aims to create solutions to problems on the planet.
