

An economist named Poonam Gupta has been appointed as the deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
An economist named Poonam Gupta has been appointed as the deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). She will take the place of Michael Patra, who previously held the position, and will serve in the post for three years. Gupta has a strong background in economics with experience at both the national and international level. During her career, she has worked in various capacities including serving as the director general of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). Here, her work spanned multiple areas including public debt and central banking. She also has experience working with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), USA, and is also part of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister.
