Mohini and the Leopard

By Anishka Agarwal, Class 3, Arya Vidya Mandir, Bandra West, Mumbai

Mohini, a free and dreamy girl, lived in a village nearby a wildlife sanctuary. One morning, she was out to fetch water with her mother. She saw a colourful butterfly and started to follow it. Before her mother could realise, Mohini was inside the jungle. In no time, the butterfly was out of sight and so was her mother. She found herself in the midst of tall trees, green grass, dry leaves, wet mud and finally, scaring her the most, some fresh pug marks. Before she could think, a leopard was standing across, staring at her.

Mohini shivered in fear and froze in the moment. She kept shouting for help, but for some reason, she couldn’t hear anything. Suddenly she could hear, not her own voice though; it was the trumpet of an elephant. Mohini was dreaming, as usual, while actually she was on a jungle safari with elephant Gannu, her favourite Sunday activity.
