Scientists at Columbia University, USA, have used 3D printing technology to make a vegan cheesecake in about 30 minutes. The cheesecake was assembled and cooked using a 3D printing machine and laser technology. Seven ingredients including Nutella, strawberry jam and peanut butter were filled in the 3D printer and then printed out in layers to form the cheesecake. Scientists hope to use this technology, which can customise food production to suit different consumers, to reduce food wastage and stop the spread of foodborne diseases caused by human contact during food production.
