Australian researchers have discovered an enzyme called Huc that has the ability to change air into energy. The enzyme, which is found in a soil bacterium called Mycobacterium smegmatis, produces an electric current by making use of small amounts of hydrogen in the atmosphere.
Huc has the ability to absorb hydrogen and produce electricity even after being heated to temperatures of 80˚C or being frozen. Scientists hope to be able to use Huc to produce air-powered devices that could replace solar-powered devices in the future.
