Sikkimese filmmaker Tribeny Rai’s film, ‘Shape of Momo’ won the HAF Goes to Cannes award at the recently concluded Hong Kong Film Festival. An independent filmmaker from Nandok, a village near Gangtok, Rai is a graduate in direction and screenplay writing from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata. She focusses on stories rooted in identity, gender and society, particularly within her Sikkimese community. Her film ‘Shape of Momo’ explores patriarchy and family dynamics in Sikkim. Through her films, she aims to create stories that spotlight the struggles and strength of women in conventional societies. Some of her other films include ‘Sikkim Soccer Girls’ and ‘Memory of a Heart’, which won awards at the Northeast Film Festival and the Women’s Voices Now Film Festival in California, USA.
