Melody of Life

Gurneet Kaur Bhatia, Class 8, Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar, Indore

Wandering down the silent streets of the city…
Under the star studded, violet tinted evening sky…
The wind, brought a flower of hope, which seemed pretty.
And that hush whispered in my ears, a gentle ‘Hi’!
The hues of my dreams faded, and this walk introspected…
Frosty zephyr even made the water rise to shivers…
The tear rolling down my cheek, that little frozen pond reflected.
Together happened, a soft icy sigh, goosebumps down the skin under my blazer, and quivers!
The legs, not weakened…but the heart cluttered with endless thoughts, wished to rest…
Laying on a partly broken wooden bench, I gazed the twinkles with a wry smile…
“I was going to be a singer, not a failure…destiny! I hoped for fame not denial piercing my chest!
I asked you to help me, not leave me in a pit of darkness alone, long upto a mile!”
These complaining eyes…quietly shut into a sleep, a restless one…
Lost in a hopeless midst of my dream, an unknown melody stirred me…
Rubbing my sluggish eyes, I approached a strange hut thronged by Christmas fun.
It wasn’t Christmas, but a tree, decorated and carols being sung for a newborn blurred me.
The baby stared at me, and didn’t babble, but said “You are not a failure, you’re hope!
I’m being celebrated, coz I’ve taken birth, in you…as you. I’m you, your SOUL!
Failure planted my seed in you, to edify you not for you to feel mope.
Jesus’s birth is celebrated but the actual Jesus is me, to constitute you not let you be lone”.
A gasp woke me, the inner me, my mind from that fantasy…
The weather warmed and my boot prints were visible on the wide, thick sheet of snow.
Like a page, inscribed by the ink of my untold, unknown…prophecy.
Following which, the ray of love and melody again in me would grow.
I retraced my path, my boot prints, humming the Christmas carols being sung in my dream.
Letting the melody wrap me in its comfort and endless warmth.
Strolling on this hopeful page, I didn’t knew the reason behind this joy, and inner beam!
I just followed the rhyme, not knowing where am I going to south or to North!
