An Indian non-governmental organisation (NGO) called ‘Educate Girls’ has won the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award, an award that recognises organisations and individuals in Asia who contribute towards bettering society.
The NGO is the first organisation from India to be bestowed with the award, which is considered the highest such honour in Asia.
Educate Girls, which was founded by Safeena Hussain in 2007, has worked towards ensuring that girls, including those who have dropped out of school, have access to education and essential skills.
The organisation contributes towards transforming society’s traditional opinions about girls and supports young women through open schooling.
