Climate change is no longer a distant problem—we can feel its effects everywhere. Summers are getting hotter, rains are arriving at the wrong times and storms and floods are happening more often. In just the past few decades, Earth’s temperature has risen by 0.4°C to 0.8°C. That might sound like a tiny change, but it has led to huge consequences. Glaciers are melting, animals are losing their homes and our environment is becoming weaker every day. Scientists say the last ten years have been the hottest in history. This shows just how much our planet is suffering.
Most of these problems are caused by our own actions. When we burn coal, petrol and diesel for energy, we release greenhouse gases that trap heat in our atmosphere. This makes the planet warmer. In some areas, like Central India, pollution levels are so high that damage to the ozone layer has already begun to show.
Even things that seem “good for the planet” can have hidden downsides. For example, lithium batteries used in electric cars and gadgets can create dangerous waste during manufacturing. Producing these batteries can sometimes cause three times more pollution than what a diesel engine creates over three years. Plus, nearly 70% of the electricity used to charge them still comes from polluting sources.
That’s why it’s important to take action now. We should save electricity, use clean energy like solar and wind, plant more trees and avoid wasting resources whenever we can.
Earth is our only home. If we want a safe and healthy future, we need to start caring for it today. Every small step, taken by each of us, can lead to a big difference for our planet and generations to come.
