  • Hundreds of IndiGo flights were cancelled in early December, causing unrest among passengers and overcrowding at airports in India.
  • The disruption was mainly attributed to the rule by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that was implemented to tackle pilot exhaustion.
  • The change in the rostering norms led to a lack of crewmembers, severely affecting flight schedules.
  • To restore normal airline functioning, the rule was later withdrawn by the DGCA.
  • The DGCA granted IndiGo a temporary exemption until February 10, 2026, from some specific new flight duty time limitation rules to help the airline stabilise its operations and minimise passenger inconvenience.
