December 01, 2021

Spain will ban advertisements of unhealthy foods and drinks like chocolates, biscuits, sweets, energy bars, cakes, juices, energy drinks and ice creams aimed at children. This move hopes to prevent childhood obesity. Other food products will also face a ban if they exceed the limit for saturated fats, sugar and salt content. According to the country’s consumer association, nine out of 10 food advertisements targeted at children are for unhealthy products. According to the Spanish Agency for Nutrition and Food Safety survey, around 40.6% of Spanish children between the ages of six and nine are overweight and 17.3% qualify as obese.
