Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder), USA, have created a substance that can be used to insulate windows, allowing ideal temperatures to be maintained in rooms. This substance, called Mesoporous Optically Clear Heat Insulator (MOCHI), is unique as it not only prevents the exchange of heat, but is also transparent. Using this substance on windows allows them to remain transparent in contrast to most insulating substances that distort visibility. MOCHI is a gel made of silicone that stops heat transfer with the help of air. It has small pores that help capture air. These small bubbles of air prevent the exchange of heat, keeping the temperature indoors pleasant in summer and winter.
