To promote inclusivity and awareness about autism among children, toy manufacturer Mattel has introduced an autistic Barbie doll as part of its Barbie Fashionistas line.
The doll’s design includes body features, accessories and other elements that show how autistic people navigate the world.
Mattel partnered with Autistic Self Advocacy Network, a body that is managed by autistic individuals and works towards their empowerment, to create the doll.
The company has already launched dolls depicting disabilities, including dolls with hearing aids and Down syndrome. Through such products, Mattel hopes to encourage children to embrace differences.
