The Indian government has planned to set up new automatic weather stations (AWS) in cities, including Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai, to enhance weather forecasting. This effort is being carried out as part of Mission Mausam of the Indian government and is expected to boost weather forecasting at the local level. The weather stations were developed by scientists headed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, with the help of 3D printing. These stations are indigenously produced, marking major progress in India’s forecasting technology. The new stations will be added to India’s existing AWS network.
