Bulgaria, a country in Europe, switched its official currency from the lev to the euro on January 1, 2026. The move, which came nearly two decades after the country became part of the European Union (EU), intends to strengthen the country’s economy, enhance trade and make transactions with other countries using the euro easier. Bulgaria has now become the 21st country to be come part of the eurozone, with Croatia being the last country to adopt the euro in 2023. While some of Bulgaria’s citizens are content with the move, others are worried that the change might impact prices and inflation.
