Representing India at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Final in Singapore on November 28th, our team—Devansh Awatramani, Sheel Mehta, and R. Sairam Rakshith—had the honour of competing in the advanced ‘Future Engineers’ category. As high school students aged 14 and 15, we were among the youngest participants in a field that included university-level teams up to age 22.
Our autonomous vehicle delivered a strong performance on the global stage. We secured the 5th rank globally in terms of Robot Performance, and we were one of only five teams to achieve a perfect full score across all 4 competitive rounds. While a minor miscommunication regarding documentation submissions placed us 11th out of 64 teams in the final overall standings, we are incredibly proud of the technical precision our robot achieved on the field.
Our journey started on January 15th, 2025. After winning Gold at the Nationals, we secured a sponsorship of ₹3.5 Lakhs from educational initiatives to ensure our journey was fully self-dependent for the international finals. Over the course of 11 months, we dedicated 15 hours a week outside of school to design custom Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), model 3D-printed parts, and prototype with specialised sensors imported from abroad.
Guided by our mentors, Paresh Patel and Monal Shah, and following our Gold medal win at the Nationals in Hyderabad on September 6th, it was a privilege to carry the Indian flag and make our country proud through engineering and innovation.
