A 3,000-year-old rare sword was discovered by archaeologists at a burial site in Bavaria, in Germany. The sword, which is believed to date back to the end of the 14th century BC or the Middle Bronze Age, features an octagonal hilt made of bronze. The sword was unearthed in the grave of a man, woman and child and since it doesn’t have any signs of wear, experts believe it was placed in the grave as a gift. Discoveries of swords from the Bronze Age are rare, making this discovery extremely significant.

Did You Know
Making octagonal swords was a difficult process because of how the sword’s handle gets cast on the blade; only skilled smiths were capable of making them.
