  • A blue Aadhaar card, also called the Baal Aadhaar card, has been introduced by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for children below the age of 5.
  • The card has a unique identification number that is similar to the one on Aadhaar cards issued to adults. It does not require a child’s biometric information as it is linked to the parents’ unique identification number (UID).
  • Once children turn five and after that 15, their biometrics have to be updated at Aadhaar enrollment centres to maintain the validity of the card.
  • One can carry out the registration process for the card on UIDAI’s website.
  • The Blue Aadhaar card will serve as identity proof and will help children avail of government schemes, scholarships and other benefits.
