Book Review

Ira Motiani, Class 3, Indus International School, Bengaluru

I do not learn Hindi as a language at my school since I study in an IB school. My mother has been very keen that I keep in touch with an Indian language, specifically Hindi since it is commonly spoken in India. She introduced me to some Hindi poetry from one of the books she bought for herself. The book is called Bas, Panch Minute and it has poems about childhood. I found some of the poems very funny. Some of them were about school and play and many things I do in my everyday life like asking my mom for five more minutes whenever I am doing my favourite colouring activity. After my mother read some of the poems to me, I also tried the Hindi poems myself and found some of them easy to read.

The book has two sections. The second section has English poems and those are nice too since those have been written by a child. I liked the poem called ‘Books’ since I love reading books. There are some baby poems called Haikus and those were also very cute. After reading some poems in the book, I also tried writing some poems on my own.
