The ascent of K-pop has been quicker than a BTS dance step and leading the charge of this cultural tidal wave is BTS, a band that’s not only a K-pop group from South Korea, but a worldwide phenomenon. While they’re famous for their catchy tunes and flawlessly choreographed dance moves, BTS is also a lesson in hard work, self-acceptance and how to use criticism as a motivational force. Oh, and they’re quite skilled at making us laugh in the process.
K-Pop: The Global Takeover
K-pop is that friend who arrives fashionably late to the party but becomes the life of it. From glossy images to addictive songs, K-pop spread faster than wildfire, and BTS was the epicentre of it all. What differentiates them from others, however, is that they’re not another boy band. They’re an empire. Yes, they’ve smashed records (all of them, let’s be real), performed at the Grammys (ARMY, you there!) and pretty much made the world stage their own catwalk.
Now, with Jin and J-hope already back from the military, their reunion is highly anticipated this year and is the hot talk of the town, at least in our BTS-ARMY Universe. BORAHAE!!!
But how did they become an empire? Let’s peek behind the curtain.
