Akarshana Satish, a class 7 student from Hyderabad, has set up seven libraries across her city to encourage children to read and enhance their knowledge. To establish these libraries, she collected over 6,000 books from relatives and people in her neighbourhood. Akarshana was motivated to establish these libraries after visiting the MNJ Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad in 2021. The children that were being treated at the hospital requested her for colouring books, which moved her deeply. She established the first library at the same hospital to help children divert their minds from their cancer treatment. She gradually established six more libraries across Hyderabad. Her efforts were praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio programme, ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
