In a new study, cosmologists found the possible existence of more galaxies around the Milky Way than previously estimated. According to the study conducted by cosmologists at Durham University, UK, in addition to the 60 galaxies already known to science, 80 to 100 satellite galaxies could be present around the Milky Way. Satellite galaxies are galaxies that revolve around a host galaxy, like the way in which planets revolve around the sun. These predictions were the result of a novel method involving mathematical modelling and supercomputer simulations with a high resolution. Cosmologists expect that advanced technological tools will help them observe these galaxies, which are too dim to be identified currently.
