People in Pasco County in Florida, USA, had to be placed in quarantine in June due to the discovery of a giant African land snail that is not just invasive, but also harmful to humans. These snails affect agriculture and cause meningitis in humans due to a parasite called rat lungworm that they carry. These snails are huge, reproduce quickly and are difficult to eradicate.
