- To make India self-reliant in rare-earth materials, the Indian government has brought together different ministries to strengthen the rare-earth materials supply chain.
- Rare-earth magnets, made from rare-earth elements, are employed in the production of electronic items, electric vehicles (EVs) and in various other products and industries.
- China plays a vital role in processing rare-earth magnets. However, because it imposed restrictions on exports, it has affected industries globally.
- To deal with this, the government is making efforts to mine rare-earth materials and devise technologies that help produce rare-earth magnets in India.
- Rare-earth deposits can be found across central, eastern and north-eastern India.
