Scientists have found compelling hints of life on an exoplanet named K2-18b, located at a distance of 124 light years from Earth. With the help of the James Webb Space Telescope, scientists have found two gases, dimethyl disulphide and dimethyl sulphide, in K2-18b’s atmosphere. These gases are created by microbial organisms like marine phytoplankton on Earth, suggesting the presence of similar life forms on the planet. However, scientists have to gather more information to determine whether these gases are being produced as a result of biological activities or due to other processes.
