Two huge statues of a well-known pharaoh named Amenhotep III were reinstalled in Egypt, an initiative that is expected to enhance tourism in the country. The efforts to restore these statues, called the Colossi of Memnon, began towards the end of the 1990s and were finally completed after over 20 years. According to archaeologists, an earthquake that occurred around 1,200 BC knocked these statues down and experts worked to carefully reassemble them. These alabaster statues are located at Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple in Luxor, Egypt, and with their restoration, experts aimed at recreating the temple’s past appearance.
