An aviation company in the UK called Firefly Green Fuels has created jet fuel from human waste. The newly-innovated fuel is similar to kerosene but it has no fossil carbon, making it an eco-friendly alternative to aviation industry fuels. Scientists chemically treated human waste to create the fuel, which has a 90% lower carbon footprint than conventional jet fuel. The fuel is similar to standard fossil jet fuel used in the aviation industry. As the production of this fuel is cheap and human waste is available in abundance, it could be used as a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the future.

DID YOU KNOW?
SAF makes up only about 0.1% of the total aviation fuel being used by the aviation industry presently.
