India’s First International Booker Prize-winning Author

Geetanjali Shree, a well-known novelist and story writer, recently created history by becoming the first Indian author to win the International Booker Prize. The Delhi-based author won this prize for her novel, ‘Tomb of Sand’, which became the first book in any Indian language to win this award. The book was originally published in Hindi as ‘Ret Samadhi’ in 2018. It was translated into English by Daisy Rockwell, an American translator. ‘Tomb of Sand’ is the first of Shree’s many works to get published in the United Kingdom. The novel will release in the USA in 2023. Shree was born in Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh. She has authored various stories and novels, many of which have been translated into foreign languages.
