To enable sustainable manufacturing, Tata Motors and Tata Power have come together to develop a 7MWp (megawatt peak) solar rooftop project at Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle plant in Chikhali, Pune. With this installation, the unit will become home to India’s largest on-site solar project. This is the third phase of a joint 17 MWp project developed by both companies.

The two companies have also signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for this solar project. 23 million units of electricity will be generated using this installation, reducing 5.23 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2); this is com-parable to planting 8.36 lakh trees during a lifetime. Tata Motors aims to procure 100% renewable energy by 2030.
